Born and raised in Indiana, Sara Lund started drumming at age 11 and playing in bands shortly thereafter. As a teenager she moved to Olympia, Washington and was soon known as one of the “heaviest drummers in town.” She toured and recorded with the rock band Unwound throughout the ’90s and early ’00s, long before women were a staple in rock bands. 2020-08-06 2020-04-17 Unwound's Leaves Turn Inside You (Kill Rock Stars, 2001), an ambitious double album that took two years to assemble and mix and that inaugurated their own recording studio, marks a turn towards a mellower sound, hardly related to the noise/prog excesses of previous Unwound albums.We Invent You, October All Over and One Lick Less hark back to psychedelic, early Pink Floyd-ish music filtered Lund's staccato rhythms and unique style gelled perfectly with Trosper's melancholic feedback squalls, and the band quickly set to work writing new material.
